Position Purpose

The Medical Assistant will provide clinical support to a comprehensive medical team while assisting Peoples Health Members within a defined service area.


Scope of Position

The Medical Assistant will work collaboratively with other Peoples Health staff and business partners to support, assess, and document comprehensive physical examinations on Peoples Health Members. The Medical Assistant will assist Nurse Practitioners with ensuring coordinated medical care and care plan delivery for our members during these exams.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Prepares electronic medical chart for clinic to include:  medical, surgical, immunization and social history, medication list, risk scores and HEDIS screening needs
  • Escorts patient to examination room, obtain vital signs, weight, height, and other information as required
  • Documents medication review
  • Prepares and assist with nurse practitioner during comprehensive exam as needed
  • Assist Nurse Practitioner with completion of lab, diagnostic and appointment and referral requests
  • Ensures patient flow is kept on time
  • Cleans and re-stocks exam rooms as indicated
  • Assists with coverage of front desk and with scheduling calls to members
  • Documents telephone encounters
  • Meets productivity guidelines for Chart Prep.
  • Performs all duties assigned by a superior.

Must possess basic computer and math skills to perform data entry accurately and efficiently.                       Experience with electronic medical records preferred.


Requires a general educational background equivalent to a high school diploma or




  • Diploma from an Accredited Medical Assistant Program required
  • Valid driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles required
  • 1 - 2 years of ambulatory experience preferred



Physical Demands/Working Conditions


Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.  Requires a full range of body motion enabling the incumbent to handle and assist in lifting patients.
